Who I Am: From EenhoornJoost to Joost Klein
I'm Joost Klein, a rapper, singer and producer from Friesland in the north of the Netherlands. Here is the short version of how I got from a YouTube channel to this shop.
Where am I from?
I was born on 10 November 1997 in Leeuwarden, the capital of Friesland, and I grew up in Britsum, a village just north of it. My album Fryslân (2022) is named after the province.
What was EenhoornJoost?
In 2010 I started a YouTube channel called EenhoornJoost, which means "Unicorn Joost". That channel came first; the music came later. You can still find me on Facebook under that name.
When did the music start?
I have been making music since 2016, when I put out my first EP, Dakloos. A year later came Scandinavian Boy (2017). I was signed to TopNotch for a short time, from 2017 to 2018, and then I started my own label, Albino Sports.
What does it sound like?
Mostly hip-hop, with electronic, gabber, indie rock and hyperpop mixed in. Drum and bass and hardstyle turn up too. You'll hear all of that across songs like "Droom Groot", "Friesenjung" and "Europapa".
Where does the merch come in?
The designs in this shop come from the same places as the music:
- Europapa: the song I sang for the Netherlands at Eurovision 2024, with the twelve stars and the blue.
- Droom Groot: the 2023 song, in its swirly blue lettering.
- The blue suit: the big-shouldered cobalt suit from the Europapa photos.
Every design comes on tees, hoodies and more, in one place. Have a look around the shop and pick the one that's yours.
